Originally posted by HN:Xcom (1 or 2) is infinitly better than Chaos Gate could ever hope to be. ![]() I strongly recommend the game despite its flaw, because it was the most fun I had with a game this year. The main difference is that there were mods that helped tailor the game to your need, but Chaos Gate doesn't seem moddable. It is not convenient to count distances and travel times on the star map either), the lack of variety I mentioned, and some weird design decisions (many of the ones from the base game has been patched, but new ones have been added with the DLC), and some balance issues (mostly the pod density on the new DLC, and the fact that some missions happen way too early).Īnother key issue is that your knights don't feel sturdy at all, and really play more like Eldars, which causes a lore/gameplay mismatch.īut base XCOM 1 and 2 were flawed too. It suffers from UI issues (no information on pod trigger meands you need to count tiles. What it does have over XCOM is that the difficulty remains a bit more consistent with the latest patches, especially with the Duty Eternal DLC (if you enable it roughly after 1/3rd of the campaign). ![]() Surprisingly, it suffers from the same fundamental flaw: it offers little mission variety when it comes to regular ones. It has a geoscape that is simplified compared to XCOM, but much more developped than GoW: Tactics. It somewhat encourages playing faster (AP refund on pod trigger if you were not in combat makes a huge difference). The combat system is a more Gears of War Tactics than XCOM (3 actions, executions refund actions), except for the pod system. ![]() I think Chaos Gate is a flawed gem, but if you can look past its defects, it is an awesome game: I haven't play Midnight SunsI don't agree with the naysayers at all.
